Maritime search and rescue drill conducted in Northern Chukotka

The Pevek Maritime Rescue Sub-Center (MRSC) conducted interagency search and rescue exercise within the Chaun Bay. Personnel from the Marine Rescue Service, the Emergencies Ministry, medical teams, border guards, and representatives of the Unified Emergency Dispatch Service participated in the training. The primary objective of the drill was to refine coordination and collaboration among services in assisting vessels in distress.

“The port tugboat Rubin assumed the role of a distressed vessel that had lost propulsion and developed a list. During the simulated incident, one individual – a mannequin – was thrown overboard. Crew members from the Arctic Integrated Emergency Rescue Center located the dummy by boat, retrieved it from the water, administered first aid, and transported it ashore. The “victim’ was subsequently taken to the Chaun Regional Hospital,” explained the MRSC.

The multifunctional emergency rescue vessel Otto Schmidt evacuated a crew of 20 and towed the Rubin back to port, with temporary accommodations arranged for the sailors. It was noted that all objectives were successfully met, and the results of the exercise were assessed as favorable.
