China floats an ice-class tug for the Northern Sea Route
The Yangzhong shipyard in China’s Jiangsu Province held a ceremony of floating a HGC9055 MV UMBA vessel built by HGC Group. According to the General Consulate of Russia in Shanghai, the vessel will help in running navigation on the Northern Sea Route.
“Today, we are witnessing a situation where Russian competences in designing and using sophisticated Arctic equipment are effectively combined with the advanced production and technological capabilities of the Chinese shipbuilding industry,” General Consul of Russia in Shanghai Dmitry Lukyantsev said.
He stressed that Arctic development remained a key national priority for Russia, while Russian-Chinese cooperation in shipbuilding emerged as a driver of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Lavna in the Murmansk Region has been designated as the home port for the Umba.
