Russia, India plan joint mineral production projects in the Arctic

Moscow and New Delhi are interested in joint energy production projects in the Russian Far East and the Arctic shelf, according to a statement Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made following the talks with his Indian counterpart.

“We have achieved some good results in hydrocarbon cooperation and Russian oil supplies to the Indian market. We are mutually interested in joint energy production projects, including in the Russian Far East and the Russian Arctic,” the minister said at a news conference in Moscow.

Sergei Lavrov stressed that “overall, the economic base of our specially privileged strategic partnership is strengthening consistently and steadily.”

The minister also praised the progress in the implementation of the International North-South Transport Corridor project.

“We share mutual interests with our Indian friends. We have agreed to step up this work. <…> There are plans to organize and expand freight operations along the Northern Sea Route, and much more,” he said.
