Karelia to get infrastructure loan for Arctic projects

Members of the Russian Government’s Commission for Regional Development, chaired by Marat Khusnullin, approved a treasury infrastructure loan worth one billion rubles for improving territories in communities of the Kem – Belomorsk agglomeration, according to the press service of the Government of the Republic of Karelia.

In 2026-2030, the region will reconstruct a sports stadium in Kem and overhaul water purification facilities in Belomorsk using a budgetary loan.

“These important decisions directly influence the socio-economic development of communities and the entire region. To be more specific, there are different facilities, including sports, tourist and road facilities. Additionally, the quality of utility services will improve for hundreds of thousands of people. The implementation of projects largely depends on the well-coordinated and efficient work of the regional team,” Khusnullin noted.

According to Head of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov, the projects are vitally important for developing Arctic territories. Their implementation will make it possible to improve local territories, and renovation projects in Belomorsk will improve the local environment.
