Engineers in Novosibirsk have sent Wi-Fi antennas to the Arctic to provide stable wireless communication in extreme conditions, the regional Innovation Fund’s press service reports.

The equipment, operating in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, has undergone pilot testing in areas beyond the Arctic Circle and in Yakutia, proving that it can function under temperatures ranging from – 50 to + 60 degrees Celsius and to provide signals at quarries, oil and gas fields, and heavy industry plants.

According to the developers, the antennas send electromagnetic waves straight to a predetermined target, thus both improving communication quality and cutting energy consumption by up to 40 percent compared with conventional systems.
