Interactive permafrost map launched on Yamal’s integral cartographic website

The map relies on a regional monitoring network with about 70 background wells and over 400 geotechnical wells.  These wells help track fluctuating temperatures of subsoils in natural and urban environments, as per the press service of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area’s Government.

Incoming data will be used to develop and introduce advanced mechanisms for building facilities in the Arctic environment and for planning the development of infrastructure components of the region’s core cities.

The interactive service provides users with analytical data from the map’s specialized layers. While resetting the website, it is possible to see new data, including that on geological processes and the specifics of subdividing territories in terms of the size of their permafrost areas.

The website also reflects civil engineering principles for building various structures on permafrost layers; this will guarantee long-term geotechnical safety and will also raise local standards of living.

The database offers updates on Salekhard, Novy Urengoi, Labytnangi and the townships of Kharp and Gornoknyazevsk.
