Moscow hosts meeting of the State Duma Committee on developing the Arctic and the Far East

According to the Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic Alexei Chekunkov, the meeting focused on considering the draft law On the Federal Budget for 2026 and the planning period of 2027 and 2028.

He said that the region has already received almost six trillion rubles in investments.

Herewith, each ruble from the budget attracted 34 rubles in private investments. Over 183,000 jobs have been created at that. And we can say now that the invested funds have paid back. The budgetary net revenue amounted to 172 billion rubles. Wages at the new enterprises exceeds the country’s average by 50 percent,” said the minister.

The state program Socio-Economic Development of the Far Eastern Federal District for 2026–2028 is to attract 216 billion rubles. One of the priorities is the implementation of urban development plans and the construction of social infrastructure in the region. In addition, considerable attention is being paid to continuing the Far Eastern Concession, Affordable Rental Housing, and the Far Eastern  Quarter programs.

The state program Socio-Economic Development of the Russian Arctic Zone will receive 20 billion rubles. The budget takes into account the development of the Arktikugol Trust providing for the strategic objective of Russia’s presence in the Spitsbergen (Svalbard) Archipelago. Another priority is establishing the Federal digital management system Northern Delivery. In addition, the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East will continue implementing the programs to support the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North.

As State Duma Deputy Speaker Irina Yarovaya said, significant attention will be paid to implementing the country's national projects in allocating the budget funding.

” We will try to act carefully and reach the goals set,” she said.

The Committee Chairman Nikolai Kharitoinov noted that all previously adopted decisions intended to develop the Far East and the Arctic as well as the President’s and Government’s assignments have been financially supported.

“The financial aid for the Far East and the Arctic regions shall not recede. This is our position of principle, which we defend every year,” added Kharitonov.
