The program of the celebrations includes over 220 events, namely, thematic exhibitions, concerts and workshops introducing visitors to the unique culture and traditions of that small indigenous people of the region, reads a press release of the Kola Sámi Association.

The opening ceremony of the festivities in the village of Lovozero, the ancestral center of the Sámi (Saami), will include greetings from the Sámi elders and the ritual lighting of torches. A Sámi Peyiv concert planned for the evening will feature solo performers and groups.

On February 6, the Murmansk State Regional Universal Scientific Library will display new books by Sámi writers. The Murmansk Museum of Local Lore  will open an exhibition of traditional household items and Sámi artwork.
