The first Chinese vessel that traveled this year via the Arctic Express No. 1 route of the Northern Sea Route has arrived in the waters of the Arkhangelsk seaport, Arkhangelsk Region Governor Alexander Tsybulsky wrote on social media.The vessel has brought 880 containers with auto parts, and will carry back to China 540 containers of timber products and nickel concentrate.China’s NewNew Shipping Line opened this container shipping line between China and Arkhangelsk in 2023. The Arctic Express No. 1 multimodal route opened a year later, connecting Moscow and Arkhangelsk with China via a transport corridor that combines railroad lines and the Northern Sea Route.The total length of the route is 1,200 kilometers of rail lines and 6,600 nautical miles. The transit time is 20-25 days, and the delivery time from central Russia to Chinese ports is shortened to 55% compared to the southern route via the Suez Canal.“China is one of the main trade partners of the Arkhangelsk Region, accounting for over 50% of its trade. The Northern Sea Route provides a direct and rapid connection between our port and Asian markets,” Alexander Tsybulsky wrote on his Telegram account.
