The South Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has announced a tender for a study to determine which companies are prepared to use the Northern Sea Route (NSR) to transport cargo.According to the ministry’s official website, the study will assess how familiar shippers, shipping companies and logistics firms are with the Arctic route and whether they are prepared to use it. It will also explore the development of a logistics network connecting the route with ports in Northern Europe.Using the Northern Sea Route can shorten the distance between Busan and Rotterdam by almost 35 percent, thus reducing delivery times and transportation costs. Interest in the route has also grown amid conflicts in the Middle East.
