The Arctic master plans are being carried out, and each key settlement in the Russian Arctic has identified its priority projects. They provide for the economic development and create a modern living environment at the same time. The Novy Urengoy master plan is now a major project among long-term comprehensive plans of socio-economic development for 15 key settlements in the Arctic Zone.

“Novy Urengoy is one of the most representative examples of such an approach. The growth of the gas-producing complex there is accompanied by the construction of social facilities, transport and utility infrastructure upgrades, development of education, healthcare, urban environment, and training of skilled personnel. This comprehensive approach will ensure the sustainable development of the Arctic for decades to come,” the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation's press service quotes Deputy Director General for Arctic Development at the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation Ilya Chernov.

Today, two specialized educational institutions in Novy Urengoy are training professionals for the oil and gas industry. Providing training grounds with modern equipment makes it possible to increase annual graduation of construction specialists almost threefold as well as to begin training students in such new in-demand specialty as the “technical operation of lifting and transport, construction, and road-building machinery and equipment.”
The master plan is also focused on the citizens’ quality of life. Construction of an outpatient clinic for adult patients and a community hospital in the Korotchayevo residential area is underway – the development of healthcare was found to be a key priority for residents during the master plan preparation.
The total financing the activities in all the 15 key settlements in the Russian Arctic amounts to 2.9 trillion rubles. Out of this sum, the federal budget will allocate 313 billion rubles by 2030. The plans envision carrying out 516 projects under these master plans.
