Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin took part in the plenary session of the Innoprom International Industrial Exhibition in Yekaterinburg, where he announced that Russia had begun designing a fully domestically produced carrier for transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG).

“We have already begun designing a fully Russian-built tanker for transporting LNG – liquefied natural gas. In the future, it could become the backbone of the cargo fleet operating along the strategically important Northern Sea Route,” Mikhail Mishustin said.

The prime minister noted that over the past 18 months, Russia has delivered more than 150 vessels of various types, including the first domestically built high ice-class LNG carriers, Alexei Kosygin and Konstantin Posyet.
“Three more vessels of this type are expected to enter service over the next few years. They meet the highest ice-class standards and are well suited for operations in the harsh Arctic environment,” Mikhail Mishustin added.
