The Arctic and the Far East will become the main regions for testing drone technologies prior to their introduction. Deputy Minister for the Development of the Russian Aar East and Arctic, Anton Basansky, made this statement, while addressing a plenary session of the Wings of Sakhalin international multimedia drone forum, as per the Ministry’s press service.
According to the Deputy Minister, drone application spheres continue to expand. This equipment can monitor Arctic and Far Eastern terrain, as well as major industrial facilities; drones can also deliver cargoes and medications to remote areas.

“Five to ten years on, the Far East has every chance of becoming a key driver of the Russian unmanned aviation ‘s development. This status will only continue to be strengthened because the Far East alone has a lengthy border perimeter making it possible to implement transborder projects using drone systems,” Anton Basansky stressed.

Some regions are already developing new routes for unmanned aerial systems; this will make it possible to develop the freight delivery network. Later this year, the Amur Region will start operating unmanned trucks via an automobile bridge linking Blagoveshchensk with Heihe, China.
Anton Basansky noted that this approach would drastically overhaul the region’s economy and logistics. In the future, drone technologies will make it possible to establish an efficient and predictable robotic deliveries network.
