The Arctic and the Far East have always played a highly important role in maintaining the national security of Russia and ensuring its economic and cultural diversity, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matvienko, said at the opening ceremony of the Women of the North forum.
During her remarks, she noted that the forum involved representatives of indigenous small –numbered peoples from 28 Russian regions.
“Women who carefully preserve the traditions of their home parts, who boldly look into the future and implement highly important projects of social significance have gathered here,” she stressed.
The Federation Council Speaker noted that a packed program was in store for the forum’s guests and participants and she also spoke about one of the forum’s main objectives.
“Investments arrive, and infrastructure projects are implemented. The Northern Sea Route is becoming more important. All these processes make it possible to boost living standards in regions of the North. One of the main objectives of our forum is to chart new measures for maintaining this trend during a broad and open discussion,” Valentina Matvienko noted.
According to her, various proposals and ideas of the first forum were reflected in a concept for the sustained development of indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East. Consequently, this year, all ideas and recommendations of the participants, voiced at the event, will be summed up as a single document and submitted to the Presidential Executive Office and the Government’s Staff.
“We find it highly important to hear your voice and your initiatives at the forum today. Together, we will continue to do everything possible and impossible for making life in the North better and more comfortable, so that your regions and your families would prosper,” she said in conclusion.
