President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with the head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, Andrei Puchkov, that his staff should do all they could to prevent the work on the Leningrad and Stalingrad icebreakers from stopping. The USC head said that the work, including the building of the Arctic fleet, proceeded according to plan.“We are working on the state defense order in a rhythmical pace. Last year, we handed four submarines and the first combat icebreaker, Ivan Papanin, to the Navy. In 2026, we are also planning a number of significant events related to the state defense order. In the civilian sector, I can mention the largest ever batch of nuclear-powered icebreakers: Last year, we commissioned Yakutia; this year, we are completing Chukotka, as well as Leningrad and Stalingrad, which we laid down under your guidance,” Mr. Puchkov said.He also declared that the Zvezda shipyard in the Primorye Territory was being actively developed. Currently the facility is building a latest-generation nuclear icebreaker.“We are working on the Far Eastern project. We are also active in replacing formerly imported ship equipment with domestically-made instruments. And, of course, we are digitalizing the industry,” USC head said.

Vladimir Putin calls for sustaining icebreaker building rates
President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with the head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, Andrei Puchkov, that his staff should do all they could to prevent the work on the Leningrad and Stalingrad icebreakers from stopping.
“Everything should be done to prevent the work on two icebreakers – Leningrad and Stalingrad– from being suspended. And, of course, it is necessary to continue implementing the plans with regard to the Leader,” the President stressed.
The USC head said that the work, including the building of the Arctic fleet, proceeded according to plan.
