The joint federal project implemented by the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Ministry of Digital Development has entered an active phase, the local Government’s press service reports.
The project implies that nearly 7,000 kilometers of optic fiber lines will be laid to 61 populated localities with a total population of 50,000 people before the end of 2028.
Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Aisen Nikolayev described the undertaking as Russia’s biggest telecommunications project in decades.

“The work will start in several sectors – Kolyma, Yana, Indigirka – from south to north simultaneously in order for the high-speed Internet to come gradually to our Arctic areas. A number of populated localities will be connected to the high-speed Internet before the end of this year,” he said.

The work to lay the communications lines will come under way in July. Under the plan, optic fiber will reach eight settlements in the Kobyaysky, Olyokminsky, Tattinsky, and Tomponsky districts before the end of 2026.
