According to the Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport, official opening of the navigation season in the vicinity of Yakutsk has been scheduled for May 25. However, it will be opened at the main crossing Yakutsk–Nizhny Bestyakh between May 22 and 25, because of the early ice drift, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Government press service reports.Now, specialists are improving berthing facilities, access roads, and standing areas, and are completing preparations for the fleet to be recognized technically ready.Two supplementary traffic lanes have been added from Yakutsk and three from Nizhny Bestyakh to increase the throughput capacity. Moreover, the crossings will have stationary terminals for non-cash payments for the people’s convenience.At the initial stage of transportation across the Lena River 11 ferries will operate, of which three are intended for cargoes.It is reported that similar preparatory operations are also underway at other crossings in Yakutia.
