Federation Councill member from the Murmansk Region Elena Diaghileva chaired a meeting on the implementation of a socio-economic development plan for the Kirovsk-Apatity agglomeration in Polyarniye Zori and the affiliated municipal territory.According to the press service of the regional government, the meeting participants discussed the master plan’s measures and the backbone enterprise’s plans for economic and spatial development, that are synchronized with presidential national projects and the regional public program To Live in the North.The agglomeration is a minerals and raw materials center producing over 80 percent of all Russian phosphates and a core facility for developing lithium deposits and rare-earth metals, Deputy Regional Governor Olga Vovk noted.“The agglomeration prioritizes the development of a new deposit, the establishment of a federal winter sports center, the development of an alpine skiing resort, the creation of a scientific and technological cluster at the Kola Science Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the construction of the Kola NPP-2. By 2035, the agglomeration is to accumulate 253.2 billion rubles’ worth of investment,” she said, adding that the Rosatom State Corporation and the regional government were also implementing projects on a parity basis and contributing 200 million rubles each.In 2026-2030, there are plans to overhaul education institutions in Polyarniye Zori, including construction of facilities at two local schools, opening new career guidance classes and reconstructing an inter-school stadium at Gymnasium No. 1. A registry office is scheduled to be built, courtyard territories and public spaces will be improved and the alpine skiing network will also be expanded.
