Site preparation work is now underway for the construction of a freight terminal near the village of Naiba, according to Andrei Fedotov, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) to the President of the Russian Federation and First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic. He made this statement when addressing the 11th international science and practical conference, The Far East and the Arctic: Sustained Development.
“The facility will be located about 130 kilometers east of Tiksi seaport in the bay whose depth reaches an impressive 14 meters, offering a unique advantage, while the Arctic Ocean coast is very shallow, with average depths totaling four to five meters. The project will facilitate all-year-round navigation to the Atlantic,” Andrei Fedotov said.
The Permanent Representative also noted that the implementation of transport projects will allow for establishing an international transport corridor and making the region a major transit hub.
