On Bely Island in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, 85 percent of the reconstruction work has been completed on the wooden lighthouse that has guided ships in the Arctic since 1936, the regional government’s press service reported.Reconstruction began in June 2025, during which five tiers with a total height of 20 meters were assembled. Next year, the remaining nine tiers are scheduled to be built, after which lighting equipment will be installed at the top to serve as a navigational beacon.Due to the remoteness of the site, all construction materials were delivered by icebreaker along the Northern Sea Route and unloaded onshore by helicopter. In restoring the lighthouse, traditional materials were used wherever possible, including timber and fasteners similar to those employed in the construction of the original structure.
