Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexei Chekunkov said that the industries with high added value, high-tech production facilities, the manufacturing industry and tourism should become main development areas for the Far East and the Arctic zone, according to the official site of the Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District.“At the Eastern Economic Forum, the President called establishing of a single priority development territory including the entire Far East and the Arctic, the next radical step. It is important to analyze honestly, transparently and attentively all the experience of the recent 10 years before making such a bold step. This experience is successful. The industries’ specialization and the emphasis on the sectors which should be developed in the Far East in accordance with the President’s instruction are very important for us,” reminded the minister.Alexei Chekunkov underscored that the single territory of advanced development will stimulate these sectors in the event of their low rate of return and will continue to support the basic industries.“We just cannot do without logistics, transport services and minerals processing. These sectors are an important basis of the economy. However, in these sectors we will balance out the profitability. Where it is very high, the enterprises should, naturally, pay taxes and generate revenues for the budget," he concluded.
